Why was his effigy lying on his side, do you know? Usually they are on their back? Excellent story Beth, loving this series.

Archibald is lying on his back (my camera angle makes him look sideways) BUT many medieval monuments do feature the effigy lying on their side! Especially ones of couples, there's actually a great one from Inchmahome Priory on the Lake of Menteith that is a beautiful effigy of a couple and it looks like the man is spooning his wife! Will need to share a Substack about that with images as its so beautiful, thanks for reminding me!
