Sounds like a beautiful and peaceful place to visit. I haven’t been . Then again there are so many many places I would love to go but a lifetime is not enough. Learning and knowing history is vital even more so in our present times. Lovely article.
Oh Marianne you would LOVE it! Genuinely would recommend exploring Northumberland, I know you love Scotland but a quick hop over the border won’t hurt 😉❤️
I've been there twice. It is such a beautiful place, and so full of history. When we were there last, two years ago, archaeologists were digging up a a site on the island and I'm curious to hear what they found, once their findings are published..
You're so right -- history is so human. I was there two years ago, and I'm visiting the area again in September to do more research for the book I'm writing now. I'll try to get to St. Mary's and think of you while I'm there, Beth.
That island is a special place in general. I went for the second time last summer. It was my first time with my partner, and the location is just spectacular. The church was crowded when we went so I only managed to poke my head in but maybe I'll get a chance to visit again soon and spend more time there soon.
Grief is a "funny" emotion, and I find it strikes me at the oddest moments.
Churches, especially old churches, just have a certain "reverence" to them that encourages introspection, which I think often digs up such things, which can combine with any spiritual feelings or thoughts one may have.
Totally agree, it’s so special and has such a strong atmosphere wherever you go. Would definitely recommend a good explore of the church if you get a quiet spot next time, it’s got some incredible gems!
Last year we were there to scatter the ashes of a dear friend who died far too young. It's a beautiful and peaceful place, I love the thought of saying hi to him whenever we're there next.
Aw Jackie thank you so much for sharing that. Its such a peaceful place, I can totally understand why it was chosen as his resting place. I'm so sorry for your loss.

It really is incredible isn’t it? There must be so many artefacts and history beneath our feet on Lindisfarne. So rich in history ❤️
Another beautiful visit that inspired some really profound reflections—thank you for sharing!
You’re so welcome, I’m glad you enjoyed it ❤️
Beautiful reflections Beth. History has so much to teach and guide us.
Totally agree! Thank you ❤️
