If you follow me on Instagram then you may remember a post I shared a few weeks ago about my favourite artefacts in the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh: the Ballachulish Goddess, the Brooch of Lorne, the Bute Mazer, and the Hilton of Cadboll stone.

I initially thought that I would write about all four of these these in one Substack, but upon researching more about each artefact I realised that this simply would not do them adequate justice. These are four very different but incredibly fascinating gems from Scotland’s history.

So, today I begin a four-part series exploring each of my favourite NMS artefacts in greater detail. Let’s begin with the most mysterious of the group and possibly my ultimate favourite: the Ballachulish Goddess.

My work as a writer is only made possible by my lovely readers. I’d be so grateful if you considered becoming becoming a free or paid subscriber.
